Gary Nicklaus shot 1-over-par 281 at the Q School pre-qualifier at the Golf Club of Dallas, successfully advancing to the first stage.

Forty-six golfers qualified for the first stage from this site. Nicklaus was nine strokes back of medalist, Michael Smith, who bettered the field by four swings. After a few years as an amateur, Nicklaus has returned to the pro ranks. Other notables advancing include Arnold Palmer’s grandson, Sam Saunders (T-18), who spun a field-low, final-round 65, and crazy-long hitter, Tony Finau (T-18). Tony’s brother, Gipper, finished three shots too high of advancing. The final pre-qualifier in California has been plagued by fog, but it is scheduled to conclude tonight.
