Inside the Ropes JELD-WEN Tradition

Four rounds of exciting play culminated on Sunday when a second playoff hole finally decided the champion of the JELD-WEN Tradition. The Reserve Vineyards in Aloha, Oregon, just outside Portland played host to 78 of the best golfers. After a long round, Loren Roberts and Dana Quigley went head-to-head in a playoff as both players tied in regulation play at 15-under-par.

Roberts waited patiently at the end of the regular round to see if a playoff was necessary. Standing outside the scoring trailer he kindly signed autographs for children frantically looking for space on their already full t-shirts. As Quigley approached the green of the 18th, his omnipresent unlit cigar clenched between his teeth, he realized that a sudden death hole was inevitable as he putted for par.

In this playoff, players involved were to replay the 18th hole. If a winner was not declared after that hole then the 17th hole would be played next.

With the JELD-WEN the last of the Champions Tours five majors, Quigley was hoping to finally attain the Senior Major that has eluded him through 36 major starts on the Champions Tour. A birdie for both players on the 18th hole during the playoff, lead to another match-up on the 17th. Quigleys unfortunate double bogey cleared the way for Loren Roberts to win the JELD-WEN Tradition.

It wasnt the tournament that Peter Jacobsen, a favorite on the Champions Tour, expected as he finished on Sunday with a 1-under-par. Jacobsen was influential in bringing the JELD-WEN Tradition to Oregon, even having his event management company, Peter Jacobsen Productions handle the promotion and management of the tournament. Oregons native son will have to wait another year before he can provide a win at this tournament.

This years tournament gave viewers edge of their seat excitement with a nail biting finale. With virtually the same field playing in the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach this week golf fans will be in for another exciting tournament!
