GLENEAGLES, Scotland – One day after the Centenary Course confounded its Ryder Cup competitors, they bit back with a wicked display of birdies in Saturday morning’s fourball matches.
With calmer winds than the previous day and more accessible hole locations, scores were obscenely low during the better-ball format.
The four matches played a total of 64 holes and exactly half of the scores recorded were under par, with 63 birdies and one eagle – a 2 on the par-4 14th hole by Hunter Mahan.

All told, 17 holes were halved with birdies.
The stars of the morning were the European team of Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, who posted a score of 52 for 16 holes, including what is believed to be a record 12 birdies between them.
