The Big Break III - Ladies Only! winner Danielle Amiee rebounded from a tough first day and showed a slight improvement Saturday morning with a 6-over-par 77 at the rain-plagued Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill.
‘I’m most proud of being out here and handling all this pressure with new types of reality out here,’ said the newest LPGA Tour rookie. ‘I’ve got fans supporting me, but making sure I didn’t quit on any shot. I gave it my best effort and came back and proved myself on every back nine.’
Amiee, who posted an 8-over 79 in Thursday’s first round, again stumbled out of the gate with a bogey on the 10th - her first hole of the day. At that point, however, the 29-year-old from Newport Beach, Calif., settled down nicely by notching par after par on her front nine.(Hole-By-Hole Account of Danielle’s 2nd Round.)
She finished the front side with a solid 1-over 36 and then parred the first hole after the turn. From there though, inconsistency seeped back into her game alternating between a bogey and a par on her final eight holes.
‘So under my nerves and the pressure I’ve just got a little bit of work to do around 25-yards getting up and down,’ said Amiee about her tour debut.
Her two-day total of 14-over 156 in the wet, soggy conditions left her well back of the cut line and near the bottom of the leaderboard.
‘I just know the the girls and the fans are so receptive to me and welcoming me, so that was calming. I didn’t know how to handle it when I first got here,’ said Amiee on her experience at Kingsmill. ‘So I really know that they are going to welcome me at the Corning and I’m going to be a little bit more prepared and go out and shoot some good numbers.’
For the day, Amiee hit 10 of 14 fairways which led to hitting eight of 18 greens. She took 15 putts on both the front and back for a total of 30 putts in her round.
On the positive side, Amiee finished just two strokes behind the defending champion and future Hall of Famer Se Ri Pak.
‘The crowd’s roar after I teed off on hole No. 1 - it was amazing,’ said Amiee on her biggest thrill of the week. ‘It was so amazing that it was shocking and made me more nervous to hit my approach shot.’
