Trying to Win Garcia Adds to Schedule

Sergio Garcia won the 2002 Mercedes Championships and declared he wanted to win the money titles on both sides of the Atlantic.

Now he just wants to win a single event ' anywhere.

According to his agent, the 23-year-old Spaniard has added the Valero Texas Open and Las Vegas Invitational ' two tournaments he has never before played ' to his schedule.

He wants a win before the end of the year, Clarke Jones of International Management Group told The Golf Channel Thursday.

Garcia has yet to win on the PGA Tour since his 2002 season-opening triumph. He has played in 17 events thus far this year, with only a pair of top-10 finishes. He has also played in three European Tour tournaments (not including the majors or WGC events), with his best result a tie for 19th.

Working with an under-construction swing, Garcia started the 03 campaign slowly, missing the cut in six of his first 11 events ' two of which didnt have cuts (Mercedes and Match Play).

He has, however, played more consistently over the last three months. Following a tie for 35th in the U.S. Open, Garcia tied for fourth in the Buick Classic and tied for 10th in the Open Championship. He also shared the first-round lead in the NEC Invitational, before faltering into a tie for 30th.

The Texas Open will take place Sept. 25-28; the Las Vegas Invitational Oct. 8-12.

Garcia will compete in the WGC-American Express Championship Oct. 2-5, as well.
