PARKER, Colo. – Michelle Wie’s table-top putting stance has been hammered and hammered during the year. For such a tall woman, it looks awkward to see her bending over as far as she does.
Wie doesn’t care what it looks like. She’s only concerned with the results.
“A lot of people have talked about my putting stance,” Wie said Wednesday after a Solheim Cup practice round. “I honestly don’t care how I look as long as I make putts.
“I think that you walk up to any professional golfer and you tell them, give them a choice between looking cool and making putts, and I’m pretty sure everyone’s going to say making putts.”
Truth is, Wie’s putting has improved since she switched to the technique at the end of 2012. Last year she ranked 119th in putting with 31.16 putts per round. This year she’s tied for 56th at exactly 30 putts per round.
