Presidents Cup format: What’s the difference between fourballs and foursomes?

In fourballs, also known as best ball, there are four balls on the course, with all four players – two to a team – playing. The lowest score of the two partners on any given hole counts as the team’s score. In foursomes, also known as alternate shot, two-player teams use only one ball. Teammates take turns hitting the same ball until the hole is finished. One partner tees off on the odd-numbered holes, while the other partner tees off on the even-numbered holes.
