The 24-year-old has claimed a victory in each of the last three years on the Japan Tour and started that run with another win on the Japanese Challenge Tour too. He is a complete novice to World Golf Championships and made his major debut two weeks ago when missing the cut at Carnoustie. He shot rounds of 72-77 there and it came after a poor warm-up at home (when 70-76 saw him miss the cut in the Sega Sammy Cup). Before then he had a win, second and tied seventh in four starts. The one ray of hope? His victory last year came in an event which shares this week’s sponsor - the Bridgestone Open.
