The 47-year-old Mackenzie has made just two PGA Tour starts this season, missing the cut in Puerto Rico and withdrawing from the recent Barbasol Open with an undisclosed injury. The two-time Tour winner was the latest in several WDs on Tuesday, which included Duffy Waldorf, Frank Lickliter, Eric Axley and Jonathan Kaye. Alternate Freddie Jacobson will fill the open spot. For Chopra, he’s had just one previous PGA Tour start this season, missing the cut at the Bermuda Championship. The 48-year-old Swede has made 10 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour, making just one cut (T-74, AdventHealth Championship).

This is the 41-year-old’s sixth mid-tourney WD in 268 events, first since the 2019 Rocket Mortgage. Of course, it was just his sixth TOUR event since that inaugural Rocket in Detroit 2 years, 1 month ago, and that WD was in his final start on a Major Medical Extension out of the Reshuffle Category, resulting in a demotion to Past Champion status. The South Carolina native, who finished 78/MDF here in the last edition contested in 2019, also as an alternate, was making just his second start of the season after a missed cut by 11 at the opposite-field Puerto Rico Open back in February (79-75). This week, he was 3-over thru nine holes (1 bogey, 1 double), 4-over total after an opening 73, and exited after a double bogey-5 at hole 9 (watered tee ball). MacKenzie was originally set to caddie for Matt Every before an 11th-hour spot came open, about two hours prior to his now 2:02pm tee time.

The 44-year-old has been battling neck and back injuries for awhile now. Trying to play his way back into shape, he is just 1-for-8 on the PGA TOUR this season and 1-for-7 on the Korn Ferry Tour. MacKenzie, who failed to meet the terms of a Major Medical Extension out of the reshuffle category with a mid-tourney WD at the 2019 Rocket Mortgage, will continue to get limited opportunities as he plays now out of the Beyond 150 or Past Champion category. He’s should be far off the fantasy radar unless he snaps back into form with a string of consistent play.

MacKenzie lost 4.3 strokes to the field on Thursday with an opening 2-over 74. He split just six fairways on day one and then lost 3.6 strokes putting. He returned this morning and settled for a birdie-free 39 on his first nine holes. That’s when he called it quits with an injury. This was Mackenzie’s final start on his medical extension. He fell 238 FedExCup Points short of his target. The 44-year-old has also made seven starts on the Korn Ferry Tour this season but he’s made just one cut there, a T42 at the Evans Scholars Invitational.

MacKenzie is playing this season on a medical extension. He has just three starts remaining on the medical with 238.357 FedExCup Points needed to fulfill the term. That will be a tough accomplishment when you consider he’s missed the cut in 11 straight worldwide starts. Gamers should wait for a return to form before they consider an investment in any fantasy format.

His current form suggests he’s nowhere near putting together a big finish as he’s missed the cut in 10 straight starts, across the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour. The 44-year-old remains far off the fantasy radar.

Mackenzie is either hurt or waiting out his medical extension until he feels 100 percent. He went 0-for-5 during his Web.com Tour rehab starts. He’ll have six starts remaining on a medical extension when he returns, needing 238.354 FedExCup Points to rejoin the reshuffle.

Ogilvie shot a 10-under par 62 but came up two shots short due to his opening round of 71. Estes had a 72 on Sunday, allowing MacKenzie to sneak home with his first win.

MacKenzie erased one bogey with five birdies but settled for a share of seventh place. He’ll remain in the fourth-alternate position for the time being. Other notables that failed to qualify today include: 67--Chris Smith; Eric Axley; Wil Collins ... 68--Leif Olson; Bubba Dickerson ... 69--Robert Gamez; John Riegger; David Morland IV.

Playing out of the Past Champion category has limited MacKenzie’s oppotunities to tee it up. When his number has been called, he has responded with top-50 finishes in each of his events. He last played in Memphis in 2011, where he ended the week T60. His 65.97-percent GIR stat would rank him 53rd if he had enough rounds to qualify.
