Rickard

Rickard will almost assuredly become a free agent now. The outfielder was placed on the injured list at the end of August with left elbow inflammation. He’ll be organizational depth for an organization in 2021.

Rickard is officially done for the remainder of the 2020 season and finishes 0-for-5 with a walk and a strikeout. This move clears a roster spot for Anthony Banda, who has been acquired from the Rays.

Rickard will give the Giants depth at all three outfield spots. He could play some versus lefties.

Rickard was non-tendered by the Giants last month but is back with them on a minor league pact. He’ll compete for a reserve outfielder spot.

The 28-year-old outfielder split the 2019 season between the Orioles and Giants where he slashed .226/.312/.357 with three homers, 10 RBI and four stolen bases in 189 plate appearances. He had been projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $1.1 million via arbitration.

Rickard has slashed .206/.311/.366 in 151 major league plate appearances this season between the Orioles and Giants. The 28-year-old will serve as a backup outfielder down the stretch in San Francisco.

The Giants needed to clear a spot on the 25-man roster for Logan Webb to make his debut on Saturday, and Rickard was the odd-man out. He should rejoin the big league club once rosters expand in a couple of weeks.

He’s taking the place of fellow outfielder Steven Duggar, who was lost to a sprained AC joint suffered in Wednesday’s loss to Washington. Rickard earned his promotion by tearing the cover off the ball at Sacramento, sporting an impressive .358 average over 38 games for the River Cats. The 28-year-old holds a .245 lifetime mark over 317 major-league appearances, all with Baltimore.

Former Orioles outfielder Joey Rickard will absorb his spot on the active roster. Duggar injured himself diving in the outfield Wednesday against the Nationals. The 25-year-old hasn’t accomplished much offensively this year, contributing a meager .234 average with just four homers in 261 at-bats for San Francisco. His injury is expected to set him down for at least two weeks.

Rickard had been designated for assignment. He’s been assigned to Triple-A Sacramento, where he’ll provide outfield depth.
