    Miami redshirt senior K Jose Borregales was awarded the 2020 Lou Groza award for the nation’s best kicker.
    Borregales brings home some hardware for the Hurricanes in just his first year on campus. After spending four years at FIU, Borregales transferred over to Miami for the 2020 season and absolutely crushed it. not only was he perfect on 37 extra point attempts, but he went 19-of-22 on field goals throughout the season, putting him just over a 90% hit rate. He lead the ACC in that regard. The most impressive part of Borregales’ season is the degree of difficulty on his kicks. Borregales went 9-of-11 beyond 40 yards, including nailing both of his 50-plus yard attempts.

    Yep, kickers get love here, too. Borregales was a solid producer for FIU in his time with the Golden Panthers, but he was crucial on Saturday. The most impressive of these kicks was a 57-yarder that went right down the middle. Borregales looks to be a real weapon for the Hurricanes, and should put up more points against Florida State next Saturday.

    Borregales (5'10/206) is staying in the state of Florida, but making a huge jump in competition moving to the ACC. After redshirting 2016, Borregales served as FIU’s starting K for the past three seasons. Borregales is a career 50-of-66 on field goals, including 4-of-6 on kicks 50 yards or longer. Borregales has one remaining year of eligibility and can play right away in 2020.
  • FIU redshirt junior K Jose Borregales entered the NCAA transfer portal.
    Borregales (5'10/190) hit on 21-of-29 field goals during the fall campaign. The redshirt junior ends his time with the Golden Panthers having connected on 39-of-50 FG attempts. He has one year eligibility remaining to his fair name.
