Steelers selected Michigan State CB Justin Layne with the No. 83 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Layne (6’2/192) turned pro after making 26 starts in three seasons for the Spartans, transitioning from wide receiver to cornerback early in his career and logging three interceptions, earning second-team All-B1G as a 2018 junior. PFF College awarded Layne with its highest 2018 cornerback grade, while Layne confirmed his elite athleticism with 90th-percentile SPARQ results at the Combine, including an 11-foot-2 broad jump and 6.90 three cone-time. Long and an efficient mover with a wideout background, Layne offers legitimate shutdown-corner upside but also a low floor.
