Kirk McCarty has signed a one-year contract with the SSG Landers of the Korea Baseball Organization.
McCarty was released last month by the Guardians to pursue an overseas opportunity and will male $775,000 next season in Korea. 27-year-old southpaw posted a respectable 4.54 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 26/13 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings (13 appearances, two starts) last year in the majors.

Ilgan Sports reports that left-hander Kirk McCarty is nearing a deal with the SSG Landers in the Korea Baseball Organization.
The 27-year-old southpaw was dropped from the Guardians 40-man roster in mid-November just prior to the non-tender deadline. McCarty logged a 4.54 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 26/13 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings in 13 appearances at the big league level in 2022. It looks as though he’ll take a guaranteed deal worth around $1 million as opposed to settling for a minor league contract stateside.

    Guardians released LHP Kirk McCarty.
McCarty was removed from the Guardians’ 40-man roster earlier this week and released ahead of Friday’s non-tender deadline. The 27-year-old lefty posted a serviceable 4.54 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 26/13 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings (13 appearances, two starts) last year in the majors. He should be able to find a new opportunity this offseason, but will likely have to settle for a minor league contract.

Guardians designated LHP Kirk McCarty for assignment.
McCarty has been removed from the Guardians’ 40-man roster to make room for several of the organization’s highly-regarded prospects ahead of next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 27-year-old lefty posted a serviceable 4.54 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 26/13 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings (13 appearances, two starts) last year in the majors.

  • ATH Starting Pitcher #45
Aaron Civale and Cody Morris have been added the Guardians’ American League Division Series roster.
Kirk McCarty and an injured Nick Sandlin have been left off. Civale provides the Guardians with some extra starting rotation and long relief depth heading into an extended series against the Yankees. Morris offers some additional relief depth as well.

Kirk McCarty has been given the final spot in the Guardians’ bullpen over Cody Morris for the Wild Card series versus the Rays.
Morris showed promise down the stretch with the Guardians, but they’ve decided they need the lefty more against Tampa Bay. McCarty posted a 4.54 ERA over 13 regular season appearances. Aaron Civale also was left off the roster.

Guardians recalled LHP Kirk McCarty from Triple-A Columbus.
McCarty has a 6.04 ERA over six appearances -- two starts -- in the majors this season. The Guardians might need him to absorb some innings with Aaron Civale (forearm) and Zach Plesac (hand) getting injured.

Guardians optioned RHP Kirk McCarthy to Triple-A Columbus.
McCarthy is heading down to Triple-A to make room for Hunter Gaddis, who will start on Friday against the Astros. The 26-year-old right-hander will likely be back up as a low-leverage reliever at some point this summer.

Kirk McCarty allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings in a relief victory Sunday against the Rays.
The Guardians have interesting rotation options in the minors, but they’ve opted to use Bryan Shaw as an opener and the newly reclaimed McCarty as a bulk guy twice in the last six days. It’s worked out, too, as McCarty has gotten wins in both of those games. McCarty, who served a brief stint in the Orioles organization earlier this month, has given up 13 earned runs in 19 1/3 innings for the Guardians this season.
