The Missouri product injured his AC joint attempting to make a diving catch last Thursday. A 6-foot-4, 195-pound deep threat, Washington’s game lacks physicality. His injury further dims his chances of cracking the 53-man roster.

A ballyhooed UDFA out of Missouri, Washington fell behind when he suffered a shoulder injury in early June, and didn’t even last to first cuts in Dallas. The Cowboys gave him a relatively pricey $7,000 signing bonus after the draft.

It’s a decent signing bonus for a UDFA, indicating the Cowboys were in hot pursuit of the Mizzou alum. Washington (6-foot-3 3/4, 195) played both the X and Z receiver positions in Gary Pinkel’s spread offense, finishing his career with 100 catches for 1,735 yards (17.4 YPR) and 15 touchdowns. He’s a one-trick-pony deep threat with 4.46 jets and long arms (33 3/8") who tends to catch the football with his body as opposed to his hands, and doesn’t play with enough physicality to handle much volume in the NFL. He’s a straight-line vertical receiver like Robert Meachem. Washington will compete for a roster spot this summer.

A undrafted free agent in 2014, Washington spent his rookie year on various practice squads. He will likely have a similar sophomore campaign. Chiefs also waived/released LS Andrew East, TE Adam Schiltz, G Marcus Reed, OT Anthony Dima, CB Kenneth Penny, CB Aaron Hester, OL Charles Tuaau, DE Vaughn Martin, WR Kenny Cook and WR Jeret Smith.

An intriguing size/speed prospect out of Mizzou, Washington couldn’t crack San Francisco’s crowded receiver corps. He’s a candidate for the practice squad.

An undrafted free agent, Washington spent time with the 49ers during training camp and was released by the Giants last week. He could be a candidate for the Bills’ practice squad.
