The Cardinals failed to tender exclusive rights free agent QB Max Hall, making him an unrestricted free agent.
An undrafted free agent out of BYU, Hall failed to appear in a game for Arizona in 2011 after completing just half of his 68 attempts and putting up a 1:6 TD:INT ratio in 2010. He’s unlikely to land a third-string quarterback job this summer, so the AFL or CFL could be his best option.

Former Cardinals QB Max Hall has accepted an assistant quarterbacks coach position at his alma mater, BYU.
It’s a student-assistant job. Hall, still just 26 years old, signed with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and actually made three starts as a rookie, but proved brittle, error prone, and out of his league at the NFL level. He did have a skill set that would have suited arena ball, but apparently has decided to retire. Hall was a prolific passer at BYU from 2007-2009.

Ex-Cardinals QB Max Hall has signed with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Part of the Cardinals’ disastrous attempt to replace Kurt Warner in 2010, Hall spent 2012 as a student assistant at his alma mater BYU. His NFL days are over.

Ex-Cardinals QB Max Hall was arrested Friday for “possession of stolen items and cocaine.”
A 2010 undrafted free agent, Hall started three games his rookie year, but none after. He was most recently with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Hall was allegedly found in a Best Buy parking lot with “several stolen items from Best Buy and a nearby Walmart.” If his football career wasn’t already over, it is now.

Cardinals QB Max Hall is ineligible for the practice squad this season.
Hall was active for 10 games last season, which exceeds playing time requirements for the practice squad. He’s currently fourth on the depth chart behind Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, and Richard Bartel. The Cardinals won’t keep four QBs, so he’ll have to turn heads again in preseason action.
  • BUF Quarterback #3
Coach Ken Whisenhunt declined to name a starting quarterback for Week 9 immediately following Sunday’s loss to the Bucs.
A brutally ineffective Max Hall was lifted in favor of Derek Anderson in the second quarter yesterday. Beat writer Kent Somers believes Whisenhunt will go back to Anderson for this week’s game against the Vikings. At this point, neither quarterback is inspiring any confidence in the offense, but Hall doesn’t appear ready to play. Anderson was able to throw for 234 yards with one touchdown and two picks against the Bucs.
  • BUF Quarterback #3
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt reiterated Monday that he’s not yet ready to name a starting quarterback for Week 9.
The Arizona beat writers tentatively expect Derek Anderson to get the nod, but we may not know until Wednesday’s practice. D.A. did move the ball more effectively than Max Hall in Week 8, though both quarterbacks threw two interceptions and the Cards know more of what they have in the veteran. It’d be hard to call either QB an obviously better option at this point.
  • FA Quarterback
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt refused to name a starting quarterback for Week 5 at his Monday presser.
The delayed decision bodes well for Max Hall’s chances. “I think we’re going to go without one this week,” joked Whisenhunt, saying seriously later that “I don’t think New Orleans is scared who we play there.” Most signs point to a permanent benching for ineffective Weeks 1-4 starter Derek Anderson.

SI’s Peter King believes Max Hall may start for the Cardinals for the rest of the year.
This seconds a hunch from Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com. King notes that one of the main reasons he let Matt Leinart go was because of how much he likes Hall and is sure Hall has a chance to be better than Leinart in his system. Hall can’t do any worse than Derek Anderson, so Whiz might as well put his rookie out there.

Max Hall completed 17-of-27 passes for 168 yards and an interception in Week 5 to lead the Cardinals over the Saints in his first career start.
Hall missed a few plays to get back his wind after an ill-advised diving attempt at the goal-line. Showing shaky judgment with the ball in hands, he fumbled twice and took way too many hits. The rookie was aided immensely by his defense in the win, but he proved to be an upgrade on Derek Anderson as a passer. The rookie mistakes will leave him inconsistent, and the injuries at receiver cap his fantasy potential.
