Unless Telemaco is traded, the Phillies will have just one open spot for Dave Coggin or Ryan Madson. Coggin is out of options, so he’s the likely choice.

“Throw a blanket over them right now,” manager Larry Bowa said. “I couldn’t tell you who’s going to make our team. That’s how close they are.” Bowa seems to be leaning towards rewarding Telemaco with one of the openings for the job he did last season.

Telemaco is not a recommended fantasy starter.

He’ll be placed on the DL later today.

The Phillies hope he can return in early August.

Telemaco will report to Triple-A Scranton on July 26, and if all goes well he could be back in the Phillies’ bullpen by early August.

Both right-handers have tendinitis, Telemaco in his right rotator cuff, Padilla in his right elbow.

Manager Larry Bowa said Telemaco could be back with the Phillies on Sunday or Monday.

Telemaco has been out since June 13 with a rotator-cuff strain. He said he still feels some minor pain when he throws, so it looks like he may be rushing back to help the Phillies’ worn-out bullpen.

Telemaco, who was non-tendered yesterday, will be back to compete for a bullpen spot in the spring. The 30-year-old struggled while pitching hurt during the first couple of months of last season, but he came back and performed well over the final two months. He’s a pretty good 12th pitcher.
