Cubs 2B prospect Andrew Ely logged four hits in Saturday’s win for Low-A South Bend.
He’s gone deep in back-to-back contests after going his first 27 games without a home run. Ely has hit .355 with seven RBI during his seven-game hitting streak. He’s hit .393 for the month of May, a noticeable improvement from April when he batted just .232 with a .268 slugging percentage. His .327 average for the year ranks sixth in the Midwest League. The 23-year-old joined Chicago as a 32nd-round pick in 2014 after playing his college ball at the University of Washington.
