BOS Starting Pitcher #37

Nick Pivetta limited the Cardinals to one run and one hit over six innings in Boston’s 11-3 win Sunday.

The one hit was a 441-foot homer from Lars Nootbaar, but Pivetta retired every other batter he faced, striking out eight of them. He struggled in his first start back from the IL, but he has a 3.04 ERA and a 30/2 K/BB ratio through five outings this year. He’ll get the Brewers next.

BOS Third Baseman #11

Rafael Devers homered in a fifth straight game Sunday against the Cardinals.

He took Ryan Fernandez deep in the sixth inning today. Devers had four homers in 31 games this season before this stretch. He’s also now working on a nine-game hitting streak, though he’s totaled just 11 hits in that span. His average is actually lower now (.285) than it was two weeks ago. His .555 slugging percentage is vastly improved, though.
Tyler O'Neill

BOS Right Fielder #17

Tyler O’Neill went 2-for-3 with a homer, two walks and three runs scored Sunday against the Cardinals.

O’Neill went 4-for-12 in his first series against his former team. The homer today was a solo shot, as nine of his 11 have been. He’s just 4-for-27 this season with RISP, which is how he’s totaled only 17 RBI to go along with the 11 homers in 37 games.

Wilyer Abreu is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

Abreu will sit again with southpaw Matthew Liberatore on the mound for the Cardinals. Rob Refsnyder will be the starting right fielder and hit second while Abreu retreats to the bench.

Rafael Devers hit a solo homer in a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

That’s the fourth-consecutive game that Devers has gone deep. The 27-year-old now has eight homers and 19 RBI on the season, and fantasy managers have to be thrilled to see the third baseman driving the baseball over the fence as of late. Obvious point could be obvious.
Kutter Crawford

BOS Starting Pitcher #50

Kutter Crawford only allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday.

Crawford pitched well, but so did his pitching counterpart Miles Mikolas, so there’s no W for the 28-year-old. Crawford bounced back nicely from a shaky start against the Ray on Monday, and in the process he lowers his ERA to a strong 2.17. There was reason to believe Crawford could help fantasy rosters, but no one could have seen this coming.
Tyler Heineman

BOS Catcher #32

Red Sox activated C Tyler Heineman from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Worcester.

Heineman will remain stationed at Triple-A Worcester as emergency catching depth after wrapping up a rehab assignment. The 32-year-old journeyman backstop was sent to the injured list back in late April with a right hamstring strain.
Brayan Bello

BOS Starting Pitcher #66

Brayan Bello surrendered five runs in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.

The ability is there for Bello to be better than this, but he’s just so overrated now. The Cardinals were averaging one homer every 51 plate appearances this season before Bello gave up three to the 21 batters he faced tonight. Boston would have been better off giving his six-year deal to Kutter Crawford this spring.
Connor Wong

BOS Catcher #12

Connor Wong finished 4-for-5 with an RBI against the Cardinals on Friday.

Statcast thinks Wong has been one of the game’s most fortunate hitters this year, but the luck shows no signs of stopping. His exit velocity numbers remain mediocre, but he has shown some legitimate improvement in terms of contact ability. With the Red Sox hitting him third of late, he’s a top-12 catcher for the moment.
Garrett Whitlock

BOS Relief Pitcher #22

Garrett Whitlock will undergo additional testing on Monday after experiencing soreness in his right elbow.

Ugh. The 27-year-old hurler had looked sharp in his latest minor league rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, striking out five batters over 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. The plan was to have him rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation next week, but that’s obviously on hold for now. The Red Sox should provide an update on his status after Monday’s testing is complete, but it doesn’t sound great.
