    Pirates released OF Connor Scott.
Scott was selected 13th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Marlins before being shipped to Pittsburgh back in 2021 as part of the Jacob Stallings trade. The 24-year-old outfielder never quite put it all together and will head to free agency after spending the last three years stuck at Double-A.

Pirates acquired OF Connor Scott from the Marlins in the four-player deal for Jacob Stallings.
Scott was the 13th pick of the 2018 draft, but the 22-year-old has had a mixed -- to put it nicely -- time as a professional. He did show some flashes in 2021, however, with a .276 average and .779 OPS with 14 steals for High-A Beloit. The Pirates will hope he can find his pre-draft form, and if not, his speed and decent defense make him a potential bench bat.

Marlins OF prospect Connor Scott went 2-for-4 with two steals on Wednesday for Low-A Clinton.
The two steals give the speedy outfielder 13 on the season. Unfortunately, the two-hit day has Scott’s average still at .225 on the year with a .637 OPS. That line isn’t spectacular -- or close -- but there’s still reason for optimism. He shows the makings of an above-average hit tool with power that’s close to that mark, and he gets double-plus grades on his speed with plus defense and a strong throwing arm. There’s work to be done, but Scott has upside and could be a prototypical leadoff hitter someday.

Marlins selected OF Connor Scott out of Plant HS (Fla.) with the 13th pick of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Scott is one of the best athletes in the class, possessing easy 70-grade speed on the 20-80 scouting scale. He’s not just a runner, however, as Scott has a smooth line-drive stroke that can allow him to make hard contact to all parts of the field. He needs to make adjustments with the swing to tap into his power, and he’s still a raw player. This is a long-term investment for the Marlins, but one that could pay fantasy dividends because of his ability to steal bases.

MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro reports that the Marlins have reached an agreement with first-round pick Connor Scott.
Scott, an 18-year-old outfielder from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, was selected 13th overall on Monday night. He’s the first player of this draft class to sign a contract, which will be made official at a press conference Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET. Scott has high-level speed and a smooth line-drive swing. The hope is that he will eventually add some power to the mix.
