David Hagaman pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts in Thursday’s AFL action.
There were 48 runs scored in the three games Thursday, but none came on Hagaman’s watch. Hagaman, a 2024 fourth-round pick, was one of three prospects the Diamondbacks got from the Rangers for Merrill Kelly at the deadline. He’s pitching in the AFL after returning from elbow surgery to threw 42 1/3 innings in the minors this year.

Diamondbacks acquired RHP David Hagaman and LHPs Kohl Drake and Mitch Bratt from the Rangers for RHP Merrill Kelly.
Hagaman’s professional career got off to a delayed start as he was recovering from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, but he has done a nice job through his first eight starts this season — posting a 2.82 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a 28/6 K/BB ratio across 22 1/3 innings between the Rangers’ Rookie League squad and Single-A Hickory. He’s probably a couple of years away from being an option to help at the big league level, but the 22-year-old right-hander has intriguing potential.
