If it were not clear before, Eric Munson seems to have played himself out of a job in Detroit the past month.
He is batting .184 with 25 strikeouts in his last 33 games. Brandon Inge will likely be the Tigers’ starting third baseman in 2005.

Eric Munson felt something pop in his calf during Sunday’s game and will be examined today.
Munson, who hit .212/.289/.445 in 321 AB this season, is probably going to be let go by the Tigers this winter.

Eric Munson will need two or three months to recover from two tears in his calf suffered Sunday.
Surgery won’t be required, and he’s expected to be fine for spring training.
  • SD Designated Hitter
Eric Munson will probably get the majority of the playing time at third base for the Tigers initially.
That leaves Dean Palmer as the primary DH. The two figure to swap spots on occasion, however.

Manager Alan Trammell has announced the third base job is up for grabs in Detroit.
Eric Munson has officially lost the job, since he’s neither hitting nor flashing the leather. Greg Norton is nothing special, either. Expect to see Brandon Inge put in some time, with Dmitri Young being a possibility when he comes off the DL. Omar Infante is another option once Fernando Vina returns. Still, Trammell said that Munson ''could very well’’ be the one to step up and win the job. We don’t see how if Trammell doesn’t play him, like he hasn’t for five of the last six games.

Eric Munson volunteered to catch bullpen sessions for Minnesota pitchers this spring.
Munson began his career as a catcher, but was shifted to first base and then third base. He caught one inning for the Tigers last season and played 94 games at third base. He’s unlikely to see much behind the plate for the Twins, but if Joe Mauer goes down with another injury he may be asked to fill in at times. Gaining eligibility at catcher would be huge for Munson, who doesn’t provide enough offense to be of much value in either corner infield spot.

Manager Alan Trammell says he isn’t ready to name Eric Munson the full-time third baseman.
''Eric is showing some signs, and in time I can see him as our third baseman,’' Trammell said. ''I just want to make sure I don’t overexpose him yet.’' Munson has played well over the last week, so he should play fairly regularly. However, the team also likes to use a lineup with Dmitri Young at third base and Craig Monroe in left field. Munson will have to out-play Monroe to remain in the lineup on a consistent basis.

Eric Munsonm, who is batting .323 (10-for-31) appears to have won a spot on Detroit’s roster.
''I’m not going to say he’s flat-out made it, but it’s very close,’' said manager Alan Trammell. ''He’s earning it. If he continues to play anywhere near like he is, he’s going to make the team.’' Munson is expected to see time at DH and third base. He should be given a chance to play regularly.
  • SD Designated Hitter
Eric Munson has had a couple of good games in a row at third base, leading to more optimism that he’ll be able to play the position during the regular season.
Manager Alan Trammell said Munson could play third in the regular season ''if I see more of what I’ve seen of late.’' Dean Palmer and Travis Chapman are also expected to see time at third this year.

Eric Munson is still troubled by a sore foot and won’t start today.
Munson started on aturday, but he was pulled for a defensive replacement after six innings.
