    Royals signed INF Isan Díaz to a minor league contract.
    The 29-year-old former top prospect had been playing in the Mexican League where he was slashing .267/.372/.530 with 13 homers, 49 RBI, four stolen bases and a 44/33 K/BB ratio over 239 plate appearances for the Algodoneros de Union Laguna. He’ll add extra infield depth at the Triple-A level for the Royals.

    Díaz wound up electing free agency shortly after passing through waivers unclaimed following Detroit’s decision to remove him from their 40-man roster. The 27-year-old middle infielder has gotten into eight games this season in the big leagues and will search for a new opportunity on the open market.

    Díaz was officially removed from Detroit’s 40-man roster over the weekend after going unclaimed on waivers. The 27-year-old middle infielder, who was claimed off waivers earlier this month from the Giants, will remain with the Tigers as extra organizational depth.
