Jason Bere was sent back to Cleveland Thursday because of a sore right shoulder.
No further information was available. He will be examined by doctors at Lutheran Hospital. If Bere can’t go, one of the Indians’ young pitchers could get the start.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Jason Bere (shoulder) probably will come off the DL in seven to 10 days barring a setback.
Manager Eric Wedge already said that Bere will go directly into the rotation. 22-year-old Jason Davis (7.20 ERA) is the leading candidate to go down to Triple-A Buffalo when Bere returns.

Jason Bere (strained shoulder) threw on the side yesterday with no apparent problems.
Bere threw all his pitches in a 10-12 minute bullpen session and said he felt pretty good. He’ll throw a simulated game on Sunday, and probably have another bullpen on Tuesday, then be re-evaluated. If there are no setbacks, Bere probably will then go out on a rehab assignment.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Jason Bere (strained shoulder) worked four innings at Lake County Wednesday night, giving up seven hits and three runs on 66 pitches.
Not a stellar rehab outing, but Bere should return to Cleveland later this month.

Jason Bere (shoulder) threw five innings on a rehab assignment for Triple-A Buffalo against Indianapolis yesterday.
Bere threw 74 pitches, giving up one run, three hits and three walks, while striking out three. He could return within a week.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Jason Bere will either be assigned to Triple-A Buffalo to remain in extended spring training to continue his comeback from shoulder surgery.
Bere was the first contender eliminated from the mix for the two open spots in Cleveland’s rotation.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Jason Bere will not make any more rehab starts, manager Eric Wedge said.
Bere could be activated to start as soon as Thursday. Ricardo Rodriguez is currently scheduled to start that night, but could be pushed back a day. Wedge refused to give any hints concerning who will be cut from the rotation and the roster to make room for Bere, saying, ''I don’t want people to start speculating.’' That’s why it’d be helpful to just tell us, Eric.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Jason Bere (shoulder) will visit Dr. Craig Morgan in Philadelphia today for a second opinion on his rotator cuff.
Bere will find out whether he needs to undergo season-ending surgery.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Jason Bere, on the DL with a strained right shoulder, will begin a rehab assignment on Friday.
Bere is scheduled to throw three innings for Triple-A Buffalo against Louisville in his first start. He should be able to return later this month.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Jason Bere has looked healthy thus far this spring and will be in the mix for Cleveland’s No. 5 spot in the rotation.
Bere is competiting with Jason Stanford, Jeff D’Amico and Chad Durbin for the last starting spot. He’s still a longshot, but the Indians likely want a veteran presence in the rotation.
