Royals selected OF Joe Gray from the Brewers with the first pick in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft.
Gray, a 2018 second-round pick, got some buzz while hitting .252/.355/.499 with 20 homers and 23 steals in A-ball in 2021, but he’s regressed since, and he’ll enter next year as a 24-year-old with just 10 Double-A games under his belt. He came in at .232/.288/.353 with a 121/28 K/BB ratio in 479 plate appearances last season.
