Luis Gonzalez went 3-for-6 with a homer, a double and three RBI tonight as the Rockies beat the Diamondbacks 14-7.
Dustan Mohr and Danny Ardoin also homered. Matt Holliday reached base five times and Ryan Shealy drove in four runs. Gonzalez played right field tonight, but he’s getting most of his starts at second base now. Expect him to play fairly regularly over the rest of the season.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Rockies activated infielder Luis Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
After slowing down last month, Jamey Carroll has put together another hot streak, guaranteeing him a couple of more weeks of regular play. Gonzalez makes more sense as a utilityman than Omar Quintanilla, but the Rockies will give Quintanilla a little more time in the majors before they send him back down to play regularly. Gonzalez should be back in the majors by the end of the month, and he’ll probably get another look as a regular before season’s end.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Luis Gonzalez might go on the disabled list because of inflammation in both of his wrists.
If it happens, Jamey Carroll and Jason Smith will share time at second base. The Rockies could call up either Omar Quintanilla or Jayson Nix, but it’s unlikely either would get much playing time.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Luis Gonzalez went 0-for-4 Sunday in the first game of his rehab assignment at Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Gonzalez, sidelined with a gout-like condition in his wrists, is ineligible to come off the DL until Sunday. Whether he’s activated then will be determined by his performance in Triple-A.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Rockies placed infielder Luis Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 27, with wrist inflammation.
Jamey Carroll and Jason Smith will share time at second until Gonzalez makes his way back. The injury also benefits the struggling Clint Barmes, who doesn’t figure to lose many starts while Gonzalez is out. Carroll and Smith should be worth using in NL-only leagues.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Luis Gonzalez left Friday’s game in the second inning with inflammation in both of his wrists.
Jason Smith replaced him at second base. Gonzalez is probably day-to-day.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Triple-A Colorado Springs’ Luis Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in Sunday’s game.
His best game since being demoted last month. Gonzalez is batting .236/.320/.360 in 89 at-bats for the Sky Sox. The Rockies will recall him eventually and use him as a utilityman. They’ll want to see some consistent offense from him first, though.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Luis Gonzalez, out with a sprained right thumb, took early batting practice and was available to pinch hit.
He is expected to start today.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Luis Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a triple and a walk yesterday in his first game for Oriente of the Venezuelan Winter League.
Gonzalez could be Colorado’s primary third baseman if Vinny Castilla doesn’t return next season. If Castilla is back, Gonzalez should be given an opportunity to beat out Aaron Miles for the job at second base.
  • COL 2nd Baseman
Luis Gonzalez didn’t start today because of the flu.
Gonzalez was supposed to start at third to give Vinny Castilla the day off. Instead, it was Kit Pellow who received the assignment.
