Rockies optioned outfielder Luke Allen to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
The move makes room for Tony Womack on the roster. Womack can play some outfield, so the Rockies didn’t think it was necessary to continue to carry Allen.

    Rockies waived outfielder Luke Allen.
Allen, 25, regressed last year, managing just a 723 OPS for Triple-A Colorado Springs. He’s likely to clear waivers.

Pirates signed outfielder Luke Allen to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Allen looked like he’d be a pretty good reserve outfielder until a disappointing 2003 in which he managed just a 723 OPS for Triple-A Colorado Springs. He’ll begin the year at Triple-A Nashville.

Triple-A Salt Lake’s Luke Allen had a grand slam and a two-run homer on Friday.
He’s hitting .370/.453/.761 in 13 games. Allen looked like he’d be a pretty good reserve outfielder before disappointing seasons in 2003 and 2004. He’s still just 26, so if he keeps this up, he may eventually end up on some team’s bench.

Rockies recalled outfielder Luke Allen from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Allen hadn’t produced very well for Colorado Springs, but he’s as ready as he’s ever going to be to take on a reserve role. It’s unlikely that he’ll ever be a regular, but he should have a decent career as a fourth or fifth outfielder. If the Rockies trade Jay Payton this month, it’s likely they’ll call up Rene Reyes to take over as their left fielder rather than give Allen the job.
