Phillies SS prospect Malquin Canelo was named Top Star of the South Atlantic League All-Star Game Tuesday at Asheville.
Canelo chipped in with two hits and a walk, reaching base four times in the North’s 7-5 victory. The 20-year-old ranks second in the South Atlantic League in both runs (48) and hits (82). He’s also seventh in batting average at .311. Despite Canelo’s contributions, Low-A Lakewood finished the first half two games below .500.
