Rockies acquired INF Mateo Gil, LHP Austin Gomber, INF Elehuris Montero, RHP Tony Locey, and RHP Jake Sommers from the Cardinals for 3B Nolan Arenado.
Gil, the son of former MLB infielder Benji Gil, has registering an underwhelming .257/.327/.373 batting line with eight home runs and three stolen bases through his first 425 minor league plate appearances, all below the Double-A level. But he was a third-round pick out of high school in 2018 and is still only 20 years old.

According to Nick Groke and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Rockies will be getting INF prospect Mateo Gil from the Cardinals as part of the Nolan Arenado trade.
The son of former major league infielder Benji Gil, he was a third-round pick of the Cardinals in the 2018 MLB Draft out of a high school in Fort Worth, Texas. Gil, 20, slashed .262/.316/.419 with seven home runs and one stolen base in 53 games (231 plate appearances) between rookie ball and High-A Palm Beach in 2019. He has primarily played shortstop, and a little third base, through the early part of his professional career.
