Gosling, a lefty prospect, revealed that he may have pitched the season with tendinitis in his shoulder. The surgery is expected to sideline him for six months.

Gosling won’t really have any chance of winning a job. The 2001 second-round pick had a rough year for Triple-A Tucson before being diagnosed with a torn labrum in September. He shouldn’t be a factor in the majors next season.

Gosling was removed after he mishandled a bunt and threw the ball away in the fourth. In reality, it was probably Troy Glaus’ error. Not only should Glaus have called Gosling off and made the play himself, but he ended up getting in Gosling’s way while the pitcher was throwing, which probably had a lot to do with the misfire. Gosling is 0-3 with a 4.45 ERA.

The Diamondbacks wouldn’t have sent Gosling down unless they were sure about activating Russ Ortiz on Saturday. Gosling had a 4.45 ERA in five starts and 13 relief appearances.

He struck out six. Unless Chris Michalak throws better this week, Gosling might be the next pitcher to get a look as a starter in Cincinnati. The former Diamondback has a 3.93 ERA in 21 starts for Louisville.

Gosling had a 4.15 ERA in 13 starts for Louisville. He might be up only for one day, as the Reds will need to add Eddie Guardado to the roster on Friday.

One day after being recalled, Gosling heads right back to the Triple-A to make room on the roster for Eddie Guardado.

Gosling earned himself another start, but he’s a terrible risk in NL-only leagues.

Shoulder problems have turned Gosling from a potential second or third starter into someone who barely resembles a prospect. He had a 5.82 ERA and a 67/53 K/BB ratio in 128 1/3 IP for Tucson this season. Expect the Diamondbacks to use him in blowouts.
