Ogando

Ogando, a reliever, has a 4.09 ERA at High-A Salem this season. He’ll serve as organizational depth for the Phillies.

Ogando gets the call-up despite allowing nine runs over 16 innings for New Orleans this season. He’ll work in middle relief.

Ogando had a 5.68 ERA in five relief appearances with Miami earlier this season. The right-hander will pitch in low-leverage situations down the stretch.

Ogando has been sidelined since May 9 due to a fractured rib on his right side. He’ll continue to work his way back into game shape at the minor league level and should get another chance with the Marlins later in the summer.

He holds a 5.68 ERA over five relief appearances with the Marlins. Trade acquisition Hunter Cervenka is joining the big club in Ogando’s place.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Junichi Tazawa. Ogando, 27, has bounced back-and-forth between the majors and minors the last two seasons and seems likely to clear waivers.

Ogando was designated for assignment by the Marlins last week when they needed to make room on the 40-man roster for Junichi Tazawa. The 27-year-old hurler did a nice job in limited action out of the Marlins bullpen in 2016, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 8/8 K/BB ratio in 15 2/3 innings.

Ogando was designated for assignment by the Pirates late last week. The 27-year-old posted a 2.30 ERA and 8/8 K/BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings with the Marlins last season and could be in the mix for a bullpen spot this spring.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Phil Gosselin. Ogando was claimed off waivers by the Pirates back in December.

It’s unclear how long Ogando will be on the shelf. He’ll be used as a middle reliever once healthy.
