Neil Walker has officially retired from baseball.
Walker, 35, shared the news on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday evening. The infielder wraps up his 12-year major league career having batted .267/.338/.426 with 1,224 hits -- including 149 home runs -- in 1,306 total games between the Pirates, Mets, Phillies, Yankees, Marlins, and Brewers.

  • PHI 1st Baseman #12
Neil Walker has elected to become a free agent.
Walker cleared waivers after being designated for assignment late last week. The 35-year-old went 9-for-39 (.231) with three doubles and three RBI over 18 games with the Phillies this season.

  • PHI 1st Baseman #12
Phillies designated INF Neil Walker for assignment.
Walker has managed just a .552 OPS in 18 games this season and it has cost him a spot on the roster. Ronald Torreyes will take his spot.

  • PHI 1st Baseman #12
Neil Walker went 3-for-3 with two RBI against the Nationals in Wednesday’s win.
Walker was the only player on either the Phillies or Nationals to have multiple hits in the 3-0 game. The veteran infielder came into this one with just five hits and one RBI in 26 at-bats this season. He was playing first base tonight to give Rhys Hoskins a day off.

  • FA 1st Baseman #12
Rhys Hoskins is not in the Phillies’ starting lineup on Wednesday versus the Nationals.
This looks to be a routine day of rest for the hot-hitting slugger. Neil Walker will start at first base and bat eighth against Nats right-hander Max Scherzer, with Bryce Harper taking a turn at DH and hitting third.

  • FA Shortstop #9
Jean Segura was lifted from Sunday’s game against the Mets because of a hamstring issue.
Segura tweaked his hamstring while running down the first base line in the bottom of the seventh inning, with Neil Walker ultimately replacing him. There should be more on Segura’s status come Monday.

  • FA 1st Baseman #12
Rhys Hoskins is not in the Phillies’ starting lineup on Thursday versus the Orioles.
It’s the first day off of the season for Hoskins, who stands 8-for-42 (.190) with zero home runs and one RBI. Neil Walker will play first base on Thursday, with Alec Bohm making his major league debut at third.

  • FA Catcher #10
J.T. Realmuto is absent from the Phillies’ lineup for the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Braves.
He’ll be back in there for the nightcap. Andrew McCutchen and Scott Kingery are also sitting out the first game. The Phils have Andrew Knapp catching, Roman Quinn in center field, Adam Haseley in left and Neil Walker at second base.

  • CHC Shortstop #13
Scott Kingery said Friday that he dealt with some lingering effects from his bout with COVID-19 during summer camp.
Kingery said he battled some shortness of breath. He felt better once the season began but feels the pause in the Phillies’ schedule set him back. Kingery -- who is just 2-for-24 to start the season -- is getting a day off Friday. Neil Walker is at second base.

  • FA Center Fielder #22
Andrew McCutchen is not in the Phillies’ lineup Sunday for their game against the Marlins.
It’s just a day off for the veteran outfielder. Jay Bruce will play left field and Neil Walker will be the designated hitter. The Phils are also going with Adam Haseley in center fielder (and in the leadoff spot) over Roman Quinn.
