Adding clarity to the one-year deal catcher A.J. Pierzynski signed with the Braves on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the veteran will earn a base salary of $2 million from the Braves plus performance and award bonuses.
There was some thought that the 37-year-old might retire after batting a meager .251/.288/.337 with the Cardinals in 2014 -- the worst offensive performance of his career -- but he’ll stay in the big leagues for at least one more season. Pierzynski will back up Christian Bethancourt behind home plate.
