First off, let me say that I have a rock solid alibi for Monday night. I was in Ohio with my family. I watched the first 45 minutes of “Batman Begins” on Netflix for, like, the 20th time, thinking about how good that and “The Dark Knight” was and thinking about all of the things Christopher Nolan got wrong in “The Dark Knight Rises.” Then I went to bed super early, because I’m far, far older than my actual 44 years. I may as well be your grandfather.
Which is to say that, my highly controversial, yet 100% correct opinions about the movie “Field of Dreams” notwithstanding, I had no hand in this whatsoever. From the Dubuque Telegraph Herald:One of cinema’s most iconic baseball fields suffered thousands of dollars in damage this week when a vandal apparently tore up the landscaping with a vehicle.
Denise Stillman, owner of Dyersville’s Field of Dreams movie site, said her team found the damage Tuesday morning. It appears that a vehicle was driven onto the field, causing significant damage.
Stillman said a damage assessment still is underway, but she anticipates repairs will cost thousands of dollars.
“Someone who is disturbed had some agenda to damage the field,” Stillman said. “It’s upsetting.”
It is upsetting, no question. I’d suggest, though, that this perpetrator’s transgressions should be excused because, perhaps, he never had a catch with his dad and that colored everything he believed and everything he did for the rest of his life until he did something rash on Monday night. If he could now, somehow, have that catch with his dad, everything will be better.
Hahahaha, just kidding. That’s so implausible that it’s preposterous to even suggest it. If anyone takes such a theme seriously, they are stretching the limits of reason, right?
