The Indians placed shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the bereavement list prior to Tuesday’s game and recalled left-hander Nick Hagadone from Triple-A Columbus.

The only details so far are that a member of Cabrera’s immediate family died in Venezuela, and he has returned to the country. The Indians can keep him on the bereavement list for three to seven days.

Jason Donald will be the Indians’ shortstop while Cabrera is out. Jose Lopez is the only other player on the roster with significant experience at shortstop, but he hasn’t played there since 2004. Jack Hannahan appeared in two games there off the bench for the Mariners in 2009.
