Last week Chris Narveson was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff and today the Brewers left-hander announced that he’ll undergo season-ending surgery after a second opinion confirmed the initial findings.

Milwaukee has the rotation depth to withstand the loss of Narveson, but he’s been a solid fourth or fifth starter for the past two-plus seasons and has a 4.68 ERA in 63 career starts. Now he’s facing a 6-9 month recovery timetable at age 30, with his first season of arbitration eligibility around the corner.

Marco Estrada filled in for Narveson on Saturday and will stay in the rotation to start again Friday versus the Cardinals.
