Rangers starter Derek Holland was on KRLD-FM 105.3 in Dallas and was asked about Jose Bautista. He calls Bautista “a tired act.”
He also says “I’m not a big fan of him,” saying “he complains about every single thing,” and saying, in response to his famous bat flip, “trust me, nobody likes it.” He added that he’s rooting for the Royals because he has friends on that team and that “they don’t seem to get along with Toronto either.”
Certainly a mixed bag of complaints here, some which seem reasonable -- Bautista has become almost David Ortiz-like in his disdain for any call that goes against him and that’s getting pretty eyeroll-worthy -- and some which seem more like sour grapes, like the bat flip. Which, of course, we have covered here at length.
Given that we’re less than a week removed from Bautista and the allegedly difficult-to-get-along-with Blue Jays ending the Rangers’ season, Holland can be forgiven for being sensitive about Bautista and his teammates, I suppose.
In other news: the Rangers travel to Toronto next May 2nd for a three-game series and the Jays head down to Arlington the weekend of May 13.
