Dustin Pedroia to undergo hand surgery, done for the season

Dustin Pedroia

Dustin Pedroia’s season is over due to a hand/wrist injury and Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports that the Red Sox second baseman will undergo surgery Thursday.

Pedroia has played through the injury for most of the season, appearing in 135 of 145 games, but he’s posted career-lows in batting average (.278), on-base percentage (.337), and slugging percentage (.376). And he’s been particularly unproductive since the All-Star break with a .674 OPS.

As part of a contract extension signed last July the 30-year-old Pedroia is owed $97 million through 2021.
