For every player acquired, one has to go. Sadly, sometimes, the one who has to go is a fan favorite. The Indians just designated Juan Uribe -- a fan favorite of just about every team he’s ever played for -- for assignment in order to make roster room for Andrew Miller and Brandon Guyer.
Uribe has had a tough year, hitting .206/.259/.332 with seven homers in 73 games. That’s just not going to cut it for a contender. It’s likely that Jose Ramirez will take over as the everyday third baseman. Ramirez has played a lot of third this year, especially in late innings, and has covered some outfield time that Guyer will no presumably fill.
The Indians made a nice post on Twitter to accompany the transaction:
Tough part of the game: Juan Uribe has been designated.
