For two months now Jerry Hairston Jr. has been playing through leg pain that he believed was shin splints, but the Padres announced this afternoon that he has a fractured tibia. He’ll miss the remainder of the regular season and also won’t be available if San Diego makes the playoffs. Hairston previously missed the end of August and beginning of September with an elbow injury and went just 1-for-17 after coming off the disabled list, but prior to that batted .271/.342/.398 during the time he was playing through a broken leg. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Hairston will need 4-6 weeks of recovery time, so the 34-year-old should be fully healthy by the time he hits the open market as a free agent.
