Jorge Posada texted Alex Rodriguez to apologize for comments on Hall of Fame

ALDS Game 3: New York Yankees v Minnesota Twins

MINNEAPOLIS - OCTOBER 11: Alex Rodriguez #13 of the New York Yankees shakes hands with Jorge Posada #20 after hitting a solo home run in the 7th inning against the Minnesota Twins in Game Three of the ALDS during the 2009 MLB Playoffs at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome on October 11, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

While making the rounds for his new book, Jorge Posada said on CBS yesterday that he didn’t think players connected to PEDs, including his former teammates Alex Rodriguez and Roger Clemens, should go into the Hall of Fame. Rodriguez didn’t take the bait on the situation when asked about it by reporters, but Posada backtracked on his comments during a radio appearance on WFAN this morning.

Here are the relevant comments from Posada, via Chad Jennings of the Journal News:

“I tried to text him yesterday. I feel like I was cornered into this answer. I know better. I was really caught off-guard. … He knows how I feel about him. And I would like to — if I caused him anything, I would like to apologize.”

A-Rod was asked about the apology this afternoon and once again handled it in a judicious manner:

Posada had to know this kind of question was coming, so it’s hard to feel bad about him being “cornered” into the answer. It might be how he really feels, but apologizing is the best way to make nice and turn the page. The New York press might not like it, but this mini-controversy appears to be over.
