White Sox reliever Matt Albers, of all people, was the offensive hero on Wednesday afternoon. After pitching a scoreless bottom of the 12th inning at Citi Field, keeping the score knotted at one with the Mets, Albers led off the 13th with a double to left-center field off of Logan Verrett. Albers would advance to third base on a wild pitch, and then was promptly brought home on a Jose Abreu sacrifice fly.
Albers kept the Mets off the board in the bottom of the 13th to seal up the win.

The double was Albers’ first hit since 2007, when he was with the Astros. Of course, today was only his second plate appearance since then as he’s spent most of the time since in the American League.
CSN Chicago’s stats guru Christopher Kamka notes that Albers is the first White Sox reliever to score a run since Cliff Politte on June 8, 2005. Kamka adds that he’s the first White Sox reliever to get an extra-base hit since Neal Cotts on June 18, 2004.
