Phillies catching prospect Tommy Joseph, one of the three players acquired from the Giants in the Hunter Pence trade, will undergo season-ending wrist surgery, reports Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly. Joseph, playing for Double-A Reading, suffered the injury in May on a play at the plate. He attempted to rehab, playing in six games in the Gulf Coast League, but it was not to be.
The 23-year-old has had a tough road since joining the Phillies at the trade deadline in 2012. He has battled a concussion and concussion-related symptoms, which limited him to just 36 games in all of 2013. He managed to play in just 21 games at Double-A this season, posting a .282/.345/.551 slash line with five home runs and 19 RBI in 87 plate appearances.
