Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Dodgers have signed infielder David Freese to a one-year, $5 million deal. $500,000 of that covers the buyout of the remainder of his previous deal.
Freese, 35, came over to the Dodgers from the Pirates on August 31 and played quite well. After batting .282/.336/.444 during the regular season with the Pirates, Freese hit .385/.489/.641 in 19 games down the stretch for the Dodgers, facing mostly left-handed pitching. Though the Dodgers faltered in the World Series, Freese continued to hit, slugging a triple and a home run in five games.
Freese plays both first and third base and will be used there as opportunities present themselves next season.
