On Tuesday morning, the Angels announced that pitcher Rob Rasmussen has retired from baseball at the young age of 26. Rasmussen, as MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez notes, is one class away from earning a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in economics from UCLA.
Rasmussen, who was on the Angels’ 40-man roster, had appeared in four spring games, yielding three runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in four innings. The Angels had acquired him off waivers from the Mariners back in December. The Angels were his seventh team since being drafted by the Marlins in the second round of the 2010 draft.
We wish Rasmussen the best of luck as he begins his post-baseball life.
White Sox DH Adam LaRoche also announced his retirement on Tuesday.
