Two starts ago Shaun Marcum tossed seven shutout innings, but he failed to make it out of the third inning last time out and the Indians have designated the 33-year-old right-hander for assignment.
To replace him on the roster Cleveland called up journeyman right-hander Jeff Manship from Triple-A.
Marcum missed most of 2013 and all of 2014 with injuries. He had a decent 30/11 K/BB ratio in 35 innings for the Indians, but served up nine homers in seven outings. Never a hard thrower, his average fastball clocked in at just 85.3 miles per hour.
