A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
Anyway, multiple sources are reporting that the Pirates and Orioles are both trying to get Kenshin Kawakami from Atlanta. The winner will be determined by which of those teams is willing to take less from the Braves to cover the $6.67 million owed to the guy for 2011. I envision the bidding going in ha’penny increments.
Kawakami is 35 and he went 1-10 with a 5.15 ERA over 87 and a third innings with the Braves this past season. He’s probably actually better than that -- you watch him for a while and you think he should get more guys out than he does -- but he’s an innings-eater at best at this point. Probably a swingman if he can take to the pen.
