Paul Konerko retired last October after spending 18 seasons in the majors and the White Sox aren’t wasting any time to honor their longtime slugger. It was announced today that he will have his No. 14 jersey retired by the White Sox on May 23.
Here’s a statement from White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf:
A six-time All-Star, Konerko will be the 11th player to have his number retired by the White Sox. He’ll join a group which includes Nellie Fox, Harold Baines, Luke Appling, Minnie Minoso, Luis Aparicio, Ted Lyons, Billy Pierce, Frank Thomas, Carlton Fisk, and Dodgers great Jackie Robinson.
