    Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Roman Mendez from Class A Hickory.
    Mendez, 21, was acquired from the Red Sox last July as part of the Jarrod Saltalamacchia deal. The young right-hander posted an impressive 3.31 ERA and 130/45 K/BB ratio over 117 innings this season with Class A Hickory. He is quietly emerging as one of the better pitching prospects in the Rangers’ organization.

    Tough break for Mendez, who had the very same injury last year. Acquired from the Red Sox in the Jarrod Saltalamacchia deal, the 22-year-old had a 1.82 ERA, two saves and a 24/11 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 innings this season in Double-A.

    The Rangers designated Ross Detwiler for assignment to clear a roster spot for him. Mendez began the year in Texas, logging a 5.40 ERA in 12 relief appearances before being sent down to Round Rock in early May. The 24-year-old will be used in middle relief.
