Royals placed RHP Steve Stemle on the 15-day disabled list with back spasms.
We’ll see if there’s any room for Stemle after he’s ready to return. He had a 5.06 ERA in 10 2/3 IP, though all six runs he gave up came in one appearance.

Royals purchased the contract of RHP Steve Stemle from Triple-A Omaha.
Stemle, 28, had a 0.45 ERA in 20 innings for Omaha. Maybe he’ll be an adequate middle reliever. Little more than that should be expected.

Steve Stemle threw live batting practice from a mound Monday for the first time since suffering an oblique muscle strain on June 10.
Stemle is rehabbing at the Royals’ facility in Surprise, Ariz. He had a 5.06 ERA in six appearances before his injury and he’s hopeful to return in September.

Royals purchased the contracts of RHP Steve Stemle and RHP Luke Hudson.
Stemle, who turns 29 next month, wins a job despite giving up five runs in nine innings. The Royals will go with 11 pitchers for now, but that may only last until a fifth starter is needed of April 14.

Steve Stemle surrendered four runs and six hits in an inning of relief Wednesday against the Tigers.
OK, we’re pretty sure Steve Andrade could have done better than this. If Stemle continues to struggle, the Royals will be quick to make the switch to Joel Peralta.

Royals placed RHP Steve Stemle on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
Stemle had a 15.00 ERA in five appearances for the Royals. He shouldn’t have made the team out of spring training, and there’s a good chance he won’t have a spot when he’s ready to return.

Steve Stemle underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season.
Stemle also had a bone chip in his elbow removed. It’s going to be a lengthy rehab, but at least he’ll now get to collect a full major league salary all year long.
