Rangers signed LHP Wilfredo Rodriguez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Rodriguez, once the Astros’ top pitching prospect, is best known for giving up Barry Bonds’ 70th homer back in 2001. He’s just 25 and the Rangers apparently have good scouting reports on what he’s done in Venezuela. Expect him to open the season in Double- or Triple-A.

Brewers signed LHP Wilfredo Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
Rodriguez, 26, went 4-5 with a 3.80 ERA, 59 H and 64/31 K/BB in 68 2/3 IP for Double-A Frisco last season. Once a top pitching prospect of the Astros, Rodriguez’s best chance of making it now is as a reliever.

Former Astros prospect Wilfredo Rodriguez allowed nine runs in two innings yesterday in his return to Triple-A.
Rodriguez, a 25-year-old lefty best known for giving up Barry Bonds’ 70th homer in 2001, had a 7.06 ERA in five starts for Single-A Brevard County before being moved up. He’s returning after losing most of 2002 and 2003 to Tommy John surgery.
